Installation and maintenance of membrane switches

Membrane Switch Installation Steps:

  1. Preparation Before Starting: Begin from the area opposite to the tail end of the circuit. Gently peel off about half an inch (approximately 1.27 cm) of the anti-stick lining on the membrane switch and fold it so that the lining lays flat against the back of the membrane switch. This is to facilitate the alignment of the membrane switch without immediately sticking it to the mating surface.
  2. Aligning the Membrane Switch: Align the other end of the membrane switch with the mating surface, paying attention to any LED windows, display windows, or notches that need to be aligned. Avoid letting the exposed adhesive touch the mating surface.
  3. Attaching the Membrane Switch: Once the membrane switch is correctly aligned, gently press the exposed adhesive area onto the mating surface, ensuring it is securely in place. Keep the membrane switch as flat as possible, especially in areas with tactile domes and LEDs, to prevent damage.
  4. Continuing the Lamination Process: Continue securing the overlay while peeling off the anti-stick lining. Keep the membrane parallel to the mating surface to avoid pressure on the domes and LEDs, and be careful not to wrinkle the already adhered membrane.
  5. Completing the Lamination: Start from the fixed end, applying pressure evenly towards the tail end. Use a rubber roller to prevent the formation of air bubbles. Ensure the tail passes through the exit slot before completing the lamination.
  6. Electrical Testing: After completing the installation and lamination of the membrane switch, perform electrical tests to verify functionality. Ensure all power connections are correct and safe. Check the response of the LEDs (if present) and tactile feedback, as well as the display and signals of connected monitors or other indicator devices. If problems are found, check the connections and lamination, and re-adjust and test as necessary.

Membrane Switch Maintenance Steps:

  1. Regular Cleaning: Gently clean the surface regularly to remove dust and dirt. Use a soft cloth and mild cleaner, avoiding abrasive or corrosive cleaning agents.
  2. Avoid Moisture and Liquids: Prevent moisture and other liquids from contacting the membrane switch, as they can damage circuits or cause short circuits.
  3. Prevent Mechanical Damage: Avoid hitting or scraping the surface with sharp or hard objects to prevent physical damage.
  4. Environmental Protection: Keep the membrane switch away from extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight to prevent damage or performance issues.
  5. Regular Inspection: Check the membrane switch and its connections regularly for any looseness or wear. Look for corrosion, cracks, or other visible damage.
  6. Careful Operation: Handle gently during use to avoid excessive force or frequent operation of the same part, which may lead to premature wear or decreased functionality.
  7. Professional Repair: In case of any functional issues or damage, have it inspected and repaired by professional technicians. Do not disassemble or attempt to repair the membrane switch if you are not a professional.

Following these steps can help extend the life of the membrane switch and ensure its long-term reliable operation.
