WHAT IS A 【MEMBRANE SWITCH】?
A membrane switch, also known as a membrane keypad, is a momentary switch device that integrates a graphic overlay with a flexible printed circuit or a flexible copper circuit (FPC) using adhesive. The switch operates by pressing a feedback component, which connects the cathode and anode within the circuit, thus generating a signal. Upon release of the pressure, the signal is disrupted. Due to the customizable flexibility of the membrane switch, it finds extensive applications across various industries. It also allows for the integration of various electronic components.

Connector
Graphic Overlay also known as a membrane panel, is the decorative interface of a membrane switch. It can be made from polyester film material (PET) or polycarbonate film material (PC). Key relief embossing texture is also implemented on this layer.
Overlay Adhesive This is used for bonding the graphic overlay layer and the underlying parts.
Metal Dome Retainer Used to fix the Metal dome, ensuring that the position of the Metal dome will not change when pressed. This layer can typically be supplemented with light guide film (LGF) and shielding options.
Spacer Adhesive Also known as the Intermediate adhesive, it is used to bond the most critical circuit part below.
Metal Dome This is the tactile component and signal feedback mechanism for the keys of the membrane switch. There is also another option for this layer: to form a polyester dome by printing conductive ink.
Circuit It can be a polyester circuit printed by screen printing, Copper Flex Circuit (FPC), or PCB. All electronic components can be integrated on this layer through SMD.
Rear Adhesive Located at the bottom of the membrane switch, it can be specified according to the usage environment and requirements. This is key to the combination of the membrane switch with other components.
Connector This is the component that connects the membrane switch to the PCB control unit. A standard connector or a connector with a locking head can be installed according to requirements; it can also be a bare tail connection suitable for a ZIF connector.
